Tennessee Baby Still Missing in Racist Home Invasion Case

This baby is an American citizen, not “American” property. This case, horrific as it is, is not unique, and hateful anti-immigration rhetoric is going to encourage more copycat actions. Immigrant bashing on corporate radio and television has real consequences.

Gurrolla said she did not see the woman take the baby because she ran to a neighbor’s home for help. That neighbor, Eric Peterson, told The Associated Press that Gurrolla banged on his door and was “covered from her head to her toe with blood,” with gashes on her neck and upper chest. She pleaded with him to rescue her children from the “lady in the kitchen” who had a butcher knife. He went to the home a few doors down and saw a woman speeding away. He brought Gurrolla’s daughter back safely to his house, but found no baby.

Obama Bans Texting While Driving

By Federal workers. This raises a nearly limitless number of questions, such as, does it apply to FBI agents on the job? How will tha ban be enforced? I think that texting while driving is here to stay, regardless of the increased danger, and that this is not in any way a good development. Bars and drinking establishments existed before automobiles were widespread. When cars did appear, the degree of danger from drunken customers increased greatly, and new laws were passed, yet drunken driving kills thousands of Americans every year.

Rick Perry’s 74 Year Old Cousin Killed In Alleged Shootout With Sheriff’s Deputies

How bizarre, and yet somehow Texan.  Here’s a more detailed report.

What the Future Looks Like

I’m sure that Hollywood will soon be giving us a hokey version of this, but I hope that it won’t diminish our appreciation of this true story. One of the most inspirational examples I’ve read in a long time.

Mr. Grayson Goes to Washington

Because this is one person speaking to four cable news morons, the stupidity factor in the clip below is going to be intolerably high for some people.   However, if you can stomach it, watch this guy speak the truth on national television. It is a rare event.

Narus “Twilight Zone” Comment Contest Continues

See the post below and leavecomments there, not here.

Henry Bellmon Dies

This is worth reading, even if you never cared about this old time politician. I would say that comparing him to Frank Keating, the next GOP Oklahoma governor, is pretty similar to comparing George Bush, the former President, to his son George Bush Junior. That makes the behavior related in Bellmon’s own memoir particularly ironic.

During the 1990 governor’s campaign, when Bellmon was the incumbent but wasn’t seeking another term, he became “persona non grata” to the Republicans and Democrats.

President George H.W. Bush came to Oklahoma to campaign for Republican candidate Bill Price.

At the Republican rally, Bellmon said he looked across the room and hardly recognized a face.

“There was an obvious generational and philosophical gulf between myself and supporters of the Republican candidate who aspired to take my place and who opposed much of what I had accomplished,” Bellmon wrote. “The room was hot, the acoustics were terrible, and the crowd was uncomofortably jammed together.”

Bellmon, the sitting Republican governor who had been a longtime friend of Bush and had served as his Oklahoma campaign chairman when he ran for president, was not invited to sit on the dais with the dignitaries that day.

“I felt more at home in a crowd of strangers,” he wrote.

Bush mentioned Bellmon favorably in his speech and launched into an attack on Democrats in Congress, who Bellmon mentioned had just helped him pass a deficit reduction measure. Most Republicans in Congress had fought Bush on the measure because it included a tax increase.

“The tongue-lashing seemed inappropriate,” Bellmon wrote. “The hypocrisy and phoniness began to rankle, and the thought struck me that I’d been here too long. It was time to leave, so I did.

Census Worker’s Son Talks to AP

I’d much rather read it this way than wait for Larry King (or any other cable news hack) to get their hooks in this poor guy.

50 Years Ago This Week

The Twilight Zone first aired on CBS television. In my opinion it’s still the best dramatic TV series ever made in English. Anyone want to challenge that? Rod’s a personal hero of mine (as if most of you didn’t already know this) and by comparison, Don Draper is in many ways a second-rate knockoff of the real thing. Serling was also a better television writer than Draper’s creators, as well as virtually all others, by a long shot.

Comment contest (cue Twilight Zone music): I already know what some of you are thinking right now as it relates to this photo. Of course if no one comments, I won’t have the chance to prove my eerie hypothesis, or perhaps it just means this blog itself has disappeared into the Twilight Zone.

“It Took Me Three or Four Good Nights”

And it took them nearly two weeks and exposure by the media before they even considered an autopsy on a lynched Federal worker in the United States of America.
