This one is from a worker who was on the rig. He called in to right-wing radio host Mark Levin’s show in order to dispel lies being spread in the wingnutosphere that the government was involved in the explosion in some way. Here’s the perspective of a fisherman who saw the explosion from the water. If his account is to be believed, he was directly under the rig when it blew out, which is a major safety violation.
The tuna bites were starting to slow down so we drove right up to the rig to try to catch bait. No bait, but we found more tuna under the floating rig. Around 10pm the entire center of the rig started rushing water downwards over all the pipes… I’ve never seen such an event take place. I looked at my friend who previously worked offshore, and he said that’s BOP something another and the rig took a ‘kick!’ I thought the rig was sinking and that was their way of bilging… But nope! At approximately 100 yds from the rig it Exploded! Puts a new meaning to explosion. We hit the deck and continued North @ WOT, Blind because the moon was at quarter crescent and I had no radar.

Halliburton engineers removed a safety fluid too early, according to this Times-Picayune story, causing the explosion. The revelation of a completion, production, or “safety” party by BP executives on board the rig for the first time provides a possible explanation for the otherwise baffling question of, why where the Halliburton engineers rushing the final completion of the well? Ask the executives who had their hands on the champagne corks.

More on this later, but that’s my take on it and I’m sticking to it. It appears that the casing in the ground is damaged, or put another way, the pipe is broken off in the ground. That’s a mile below the surface of a turbulent gulf, and now under an extremely thick oil slick to boot. Crews trying to cut off the oil flow by definition will have to work on top of this dangerous slick to try any remedy that can be thought up. Here’s just one example that hints at what is really being said behind the scenes.
