This is a fascinating (and intentionally convoluted) bunch of crap being peddled out of the White House to the New York Times. Save yourself a headache, and hear me now here:
This is a trial balloon of Rove’s defense on perjury charges. Rove is preparing a defense that tries to explain why he “FORGOT” to mention in his initial grand jury testimony his conversations about Plame with Cooper, Novak, Miller, and others. He is grasping for a plausible reason why he didn’t come clean with the grand jury the first time around (he is known to have testified THREE times) about these conversations. It goes like this:
“OOOHHH, you mean THOSE conversations, the ones where I said “his wife is in the CIA?” to one reporter after another? I didn’t know THAT is what you meant when you asked ‘did you have anything to do with identifying this CIA agent?’ Sure I said that she was CIA when I was gossiping with my friends, but I didn’t know it was a CRIME or I would have answered your questions the FIRST time! Silly me.”
Karl Rove perjured himself on the witness stand. And before he testified, he coordinated cover stories certainly with Novak, and probably others as well, as to what they would say. It’s obstruction of justice.
