Out in the Open

Miller’s rock has now been picked up and there is no where for him to hide. Check out this truly Bush-class contortion of the English language in an attempt to avoid the proven, settled truth:

“There was no recommendation ever by this team — the team that I had here in August and September — that recommended that the MPs become actively involved in interrogation, “in the interrogation booth.”

Note the double technique – First, deny a charge that has never been made against you, instead of the charge in front of you. Second, PAUSE before you add the qualifier, AS IF you were originally going to end the sentence earlier, AS IF the last phrase were not the most essential part of the entire sentence, the difference between an utterly false statement and just an utterly deceptive one. Once again, here’s Miller’s Sept. 2003 formal recommendation for Abu Ghraib, which we have due to Seymour Hersh’s exposure of the still-classified Taguba report:

““it is essential that the guard force be actively engaged in setting the conditions for successful exploitation of the internees.”.

So now picture the trial of Miller: “Gen. Miller, what about these naked men, whose blindfolded heads have been slammed repeatedly against a concrete wall, being forced to mimic masturbation while suffering from broken jaws, cracked skulls and concussions?” Answer: “They’re in the hallway, not in a booth.”
“Gen. Miller, what about this man, with wires clipped to his penis as well as both hands, balancing hour after hour on a box and told he will die if he ever falls off?” Answer: “as you can easily see, he’s safe in his cell, not in the interrogation booth. No violation, no problem.”
