This is the final chance for a Saturday Night Massacre, because next Saturday will definitely be too late. Will it be tried? Is history doomed to repeat itself, bringing down a President in the end? We don’t know, but we do know that Bush went to Camp David, forcing Andrew Card to cancel a public appearance and follow him there. Camp David is where Nixon called in Haldeman and Ehrlichman separately and fired them both, on the eve of their indictments. In the 1973 Massacre, the Special Prosecutor’s boss, the Attorney General and the Deputy Attorney General both refused to fire the Prosecutor when Nixon ordered it; they resigned instead. But guess what? Bush appointed a new boss for Fitzgerald Friday.
