Al Qaeda-Iraq “Link” Was The Product of Torture

I actually posted an article (Nov. 19) I thought supported this conclusion before; but now the New York Times has even more proof that al-Lidi was tortured into giving up “information” that was directly used by the United States as the basis for the official claim that Iraq had been helping Al-Qaeda, that this was false, and it came from al-Libi as the result of torture. At the same time that Rice and Bush are disgracing the world while claiming “we do not torture,” here is the proof that not only do they torture, but they based a war that has killed some 100,000 people on the predictably false and unreliable results. Torture victims tell their captors what the victim thinks the captors wants to hear; Bushco did not make a “mistake” in using this information, that was the intent, to get prisoners to produce false confessions of Al Qaeda-Iraq links, and Iraqi WMDs.

From the original November ABC story:

According to CIA sources, Ibn al Shaykh al Libbi, after two weeks of enhanced interrogation, made statements that were designed to tell the interrogators what they wanted to hear. Sources say Al Libbi had been subjected to each of the progressively harsher techniques in turn and finally broke after being water boarded and then left to stand naked in his cold cell overnight where he was doused with cold water at regular intervals.
