Iraq is in “political crisis.” Iraq’s economy can’t operate without lifting the curfews; as soon as they are lifted, the level of violence shoots up. The attempted government is at an impasse. The US troops are hiding in their bases, essentially just waiting as the situation gets worse and worse. They have no choice; there aren’t enough US forces there to stop a civil war. This, like Katrina, was both predictable and predicted. Eventually the US military will have to flee in a big hurry to avoid massive losses.
