National Evangelical Chief Resigns in Gay Prostitution Scandal

I would not joke about this people:

Ted Haggard, one of the most prominent evangelical pastors in the nation, resigned today as president of the National Association of Evangelicals amid allegations that he carried on a three-year sexual relationship with a male prostitute.

The guy’s the head of the “New Life Church,” or at least he was until today. Falwell just denounced him on CNN, thus confirming the story as true. He went on to claim that he and James Dobson didn’t like Haggard; however Dobson just said this:

James C. Dobson, Ph.D., the founder and chairman of Focus on the Family, the Colorado Springs-based group, said in a statement, “It is unconscionable that the legitimate news media would report a rumor like this based on nothing but one man’s accusation. Ted Haggard is a friend of mine and it appears someone is trying to damage his reputation as a way of influencing the outcome of Tuesday’s election — especially the vote on Colorado’s marriage-protection amendment — which Ted strongly supports.”
