Pentagon: Maximum Troop Increase Possible is Only 9,000

CBS News reports that the Pentagon has told Bush they can only muster 9,000 more troops for Iraq. Meanwhile, Joe Biden announces he’s convinced that Bush and most of his aides know they’ve lost the war, and are just trying to hand off the problem to the next Administration. This morning the New York Times printed a leak of Bush’s “plan,” and it is underwhelming indeed. How desperate is the personnel situation? The Pentagon is sending letters to dead soldiers asking them to re-enlist. You can’t make this stuff up.
