Contempt of Congress and Humanity

Ashcroft’s first hearing with the Senate Judiciary in 15 months. Realplayer video at c-span.org, link here. If you can’t, then read an account like this of the hearing.

There are very few excuses that would satisfy your humble host if you tell me you have not seen this within the next 24 hours. In particular, here’s how to skip to the good parts, I’ll give you the time links:

Patrick Leahy begins questioning Ashcroft at about 43:00

Ted Kennedy starts at about 58:30.

At 1:15:30, Kennedy asks a crucial question of Ashcroft, then Biden starts questioning him.

Dick Durbin starts questioning Ashcroft at 2:42:00. ABSOLUTELY ESSENTIAL TO SEE THIS

If you watch just the first two clips alone, you will be convinced that George W. Bush himself is directly involved in torture. If you watch the Durbin questioning, then you’ll understand that the United States of America is in a Constitutional crisis right now, or at the least that John Ashcroft is in contempt of Congress because he refuses to answer questions that are about the involvement of the President in torture of prisoners.
