This story raises questions. First of all, who were the mercenaries “guarding” in the convoy? RTI International seems to be a shady “contractor” story of its own. Second, notice the car:
This is a 1990 Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera. Why is this relevant? If you look at street pictures of Baghdad, you’ll often see these cars, and they are usually white. They arrived in Iraq in the thousands in the months before the invasion of Kuwait, having been bought with an illegal “agricultural” loan provided to Saddam Hussein by the GHW Bush administration. Saddam Hussein gave them as gifts to officers in his Republican Guard. US taxpayers had to pay back fraudulent loans after Hussein invaded Kuwait, and Bush forced them to send nearly 500,000 of their sons and daughters to fight the same Republican Guard. These cars were built in the Oklahoma City GM Plant.
