Fight Corporate Immunity for Domestic Spying NOW – TODAY

The Bush Administration has been caught red-handed using US telecom companiest to illegally spy on the American people inside the United States since well before 9/11/2001. Bush knows his only chance to escape responsibility is to keep the entire scandal out of the Courts. A House bill would have blocked immunity for past actions and kept FISA Courts in charge of future surveillance, but the Republicans and certain Democratic leaders made a deal last night with Bush to kill this and sell out to Bush’s demands. Any court review of what really happened will result in a ruling that thousands and thousands of felonies were intentionally committed, and Bush and his allies will do almost anything to prevent this review. Bush’s strategy is to get Congress to immunize the telecommunications companies from lawsuits against them for their illegal actions. By doing this it will avoid court review of what has happened so far, but also in turn, this will pave the way for future and continued illegal spying on your telephone calling records, the calls themselves, your web surfing and every e-mail and text message you send or receive.

Emergency action is needed right now to prevent this.

The Democratic Senate leadership is trying to sell us down the river on this. But Senator Chris Dodd of Connecticut has been speaking out regularly against this immunity scheme. He also has the ability to filibuster if he chooses to use it. He’s vulnerable to pressure because he’s a candidate for US President. Make him stand up for what he says he believes in and stop this deal. Call in to his campaign headquarters and tell him the American people need leadership NOW on this issue.
