NAFTA Flap on Obama was a False Story

The conservative, pro-Bush Canadian Prime Minister, with the help of bullshit outfit CTV, set him up.  Why is the Conservative government of Canada trying to interfere in a US Democratic primary in favor of one candidate?

UPDATE: The Globe and Mail, Canada’s most prestigious newspaper, adds another twist: the story began with remarks to the press by the Canadian Prime Minister’s Chief of Staff about Hillary Clinton’s assurances that NAFTA was safe. This means that when the false story cooked up by Conservatives ran on Obama, Clinton leaped in to push false charges against Obama that she was actually guilty of herself. Here is her campaign on March 3rd, the day before the Ohio primary in which NAFTA was going to be (and was) a crucial issue.

I think that after days of denial, the Obama campaign was confronted with a memo of a meeting — it was my understanding — in which there was a discussion of NAFTA. And it raises questions about Senator Obama coming to Ohio and giving speeches about NAFTA and having his chief economic advisor tell the Canadian government that it was just political rhetoric. I don’t think people should come to Ohio and tell the people of Ohio one thing and then have your campaign tell a foreign government something else behind closed doors.

Now this touted “memo” turns out to be completely false, withdrawn in scandal by the Canadian government. Who was the intended beneficiary of all this sabotage by a foreign government? John McCain. Now official investigations are under way since actual false official Canadian documents were cooked up to bolster the hit on Obama when it got shaky.
