Are you ready for the United States financial system to be run the way Iraq is? If you don’t, you’d better call your Congressional representatives on Sunday and tell them to stop this bailout bill. Nothing less than that is at stake. It is time for Barack Obama to step up and lead this country and stop the government’s own finance from being irretrievably turned over to thieves at the gunpoint of a threat of an investment collapse. Bush is trying to pull off his final and greatest ripoff, and if Obama won’t stop him than we’ll have to. If Senator Obama doesn’t oppose this bill, fast, then McCain will, and for the Democratic nominee it will probably be the greatest political mistake of his life.
UPDATE: Obama speaks on the plan, outlining six points:
First, there must be no blank check when American taxpayers are on the hook for this much money.
Second, taxpayers shouldn’t be spending a dime to reward CEOs on Wall Street.
Third, taxpayers should be protected and should be able to recoup this investment.
Fourth, this plan has to help homeowners stay in their homes.
Fifth, this is a global crisis, and the United States must insist that other nations join us in helping secure the financial markets.
Sixth, we need to start putting in place the rules of the road I’ve been calling for for years to prevent this from ever happening again.
And finally, this plan can’t just be a plan for Wall Street, it has to be a plan for Main Street.
If the plan does not include every one of the above, Obama should oppose it. McCain has nothing to lose and I think is quite likely to oppose it anyway. By the way, the next President will be the person charge of this all-time mega-monster free money giveaway to failed businessmen to line their pockets with, and therefore has the chance to be the corruption king of all American history. Do you want Phil Gramm to be in charge of that money?
