This is not good, a study of every single ballot cast in Florida in the 2000 election showed a similar category votes actually cost Al Gore the election (many had filled in the checkbox for “Gore” and then also written-in “Gore” for President; machines were set to accept these ballots, but then they were thrown out during counting). However voting straight-party and also the candidate is much more common than the Florida scenario.
