The economic crisis most of us (and the media) tried to ignore for a few weeks is now back on the front pages in a big way, which was inevitable once election day passed. The percentage of adults working is the lowest in 15 years. Keep in mind that 15 years ago, less women were likely to work in the first place, so this means it’s actually worse than during the last Bush-caused recession.
The share of adult men with jobs, which has been gradually falling for much of the last few decades, is now at its lowest level since a two-month period in early 1983. Other than that, it’s the lowest level since the Labor Department began keeping records in 1948.
