Fight Over Torture memos

When “balance” takes a story out of control:
New York Times

Of course, every institution in a democracy tends to demand transparency for its rivals and opacity for itself. Some Senate Democrats now calling for the release of the torture memos demanded a leak investigation when their own memos about blocking President Bush’s judicial nominations were disclosed.

Behold the above logic – Password-protected Democrat-only documents in a confidential computer channel in the Senate Judiciary Committee Committee are equivalent to legal opinions telling the President of the United States that it’s OK to throw the Geneva Conventions and all other Human Rights agreements in the trash. Apparently torturing innocent Iraqis in Abu Ghraib, and Guantanamo, a practice that Democrat Kerry will inherit the legacy of when he takes office, is a protected partisan GOP activity and therefore none of the Senate’s business, by the New York Times’ logic.
