First up, the Boston Globe story. Bush absolutely did not fulfill his commitments to serve, and then his spokesman lied for him about it, directly, 1999. Next, we have the CBS 60 Minutes II story. Documents, government documents kept from reporters, show that Bush was AWOL for months, refused a direct order to make up his missed Flight Physical (which included a drug test), even after he had been grounded.
The Washington Post was given documents late last night by the White House matching those shown on 60 Minutes, which were obtained independently. This is after four previous categorical statements, one of them just this week, that all of Bush’s records had been released. Last night’s further document release is an admission that each of the four previous times the White House said “all of the documents have been released,” they were intentionally lying. And there are more:
“The Bush administration has issued government-wide instructions centralizing the release of information relating to the president’s service with the Texas Air National Guard between 1968 and 1973. Officers responsible for implementing the Freedom of Information Act for the National Guard and the Pentagon declined to respond to queries from The Post last week on the completeness of the president’s records, referring a reporter instead to Krenke and the White House press office.”
