This case was a particularly horrifying and essentially psychotic murder. The defendant is guilty as hell of murder in the first degree. If he walks, I know one thing for sure, visiting Florida (or living there) while black will be risking pointless death at the hands of psychotic racists.
4 out of 5.
I admire her composure and measured words in response to this heartbreaking atrocity. The message from the verdicts of this and the Zimmerman trial seems to be that killing is o.k. if you feel disrespected. This young man was killed because he was seen as uppity. What was going on in Mr. Dunn’s mind to think they he could just walk up to a car of complete strangers and demand they do as he said? I think racism is the underlying motive, whether this could be proven or not. It comes from the belief that certain segments of society should “know their place,” that they are not entitled to basic freedom to exist. And simply because they enjoy a different type of music, and at a louder volume?! OUTRAGEOUS! Stand Your Ground laws have opened the door for ambiguity and vigilantism. HOW could Dunn have feared for his life? I think the jury should be ashamed for not recognizing the simplest, basic elements of the case.
what’s more, if the racial identities of these two men were switched, I’m sure Mr.Dunn would absolutely be facing life in prison.
And someday there might be a case of an adult black or other minority “standing his ground” and killing an unarmed white teenager. The media attention to that would likely be out of this world.
