and john mccain was there recently cheering on the rightwing protesters who include among their ranks neofascists linked to svoboda which until recently included a swastika-like symbol on their flag and others who consider svoboda too `moderateˊ. protesters are not always in the right,and the policies the mostly western ukraine rural based protesters are advocating would be a disaster for the eastern and southern industrialized parts of the country, where incidentally, support for the communist party is still strong over 2 decades after the `collapseˊ of socialism

So do the Ukraine troops, firing Russian teargas, Russian live ammunition killing protesters, driving Russian-made vehicles and wearing Russian-made riot gear.
btw i never meant to imply that you said protesters were always in the right. that wasn’t a polemics with you. honestly i didnt even know your take on this…i think there is (understandably) a kneejerk reaction to sympathize with protesters who are being suppressed…i meant that comment generally….but sometimes protests should be suppressed imho. i wasn’t polemicizing with you, i was just expressing my thinking that this has the more of the feeling of the so-called color revolutions (which were really counterrevolutions) rather than anything potentially liberatory. I feel the same way about the recent disorder in Venezuela, and I am happy that the counterrevolutionary former mayor sowing the disruption there has been detained, and will be charged. Progress must be defended against reaction.
