Well, well, well: LA Times has been all over this story and now they have finally got something. Bush’s chief spinmeister Dan Bartlett was given the CBS documents, showed them to Bush himself, then did an interview with CBS, all the while never objecting to the “suspect” documents even as the CBS correspondent kept mentioning and quoting from them. CBS, strangely enough, took this as an acknowledgement that they were legitimate, on top of their other (shaky) confirmations. It’s as simple as that. Now the only mop-up left for the obsessed right-wingers is to find out who crafted them.
In the crucial interview with the White House communications director, Howard noted that Roberts had specifically asked if the documents were fake. Bartlett’s answer was: “I’m not saying that at all. I’m just saying that the fact that documents like this are being raised when, in fact, all they do is reaffirm what we’ve said all along, is questionable.”
Oh, and last night exactly as predicted on this web page the White House dumped 79 more pages of Vietnam-era military documents about Bush.
