This is going to end in criminal charges, Ensign broke tax laws, lobbying laws, and bribery laws by paying off the husband and the children of his mistress, while laundering the money through his parents. When a US Senator gets criminal charges (unless they beat them all), they are finished. Thus allowing me to link to this video with a great sense of satisfaction. One of the greatest entertainment moments of the last decade. This 90 minute show was so great that even Molly Ivins, the innocent bystander in the Franken-O’Reilly brawl, is well worth listening to. It’s a good thing that the journalist who tried to expose this during the Watergate era is alive to be vindicated. According to this story, his case is still in court after nearly 40 years. If you know anyone who has just about any model Toyota made since 2000, please remind them of this: if the accelerator acts up, put the car in neutral. Every Toyota model, gasoline or hybrid, allows you to do this while the car is running, even if the engine speed accelerates out of control. Dozens and dozens of people have avoided a crash by doing it. This guy, understandable, was afraid to do it. The result was quite frightening.

This includes cars that have already been recalled and “fixed,” in my opinion. The car at issue in this story was not even part of a recall, yet just read what happened with it and there are many other stories like it that involve cars not part of the recall. Just as importantly, the “fix” being applied by Toyota (replacing accelerator pedals and floor mats on some cars) is completely irrelevant to and ineffective at fixing the main problem. It will save money, not “waste” it. Remember that the next time every single mainstream media outlet repeats the opposite without question, totally operating every single day on the presumption that the bill is “expensive.” It will actually cost the taxpayer more money to defeat the bill than to pass it. |
