Coburn Suggested Payoff in Ensign Affair

Tom Coburn was an accessory to blackmail, and should be prosecuted by the US Department of Justice for committing this crime in the District of Columbia.  UPDATE:  A payoff of at least $100,000 was made.  That’s a crime, and Coburn was in on it.

CIA LIED TO CONGRESS SINCE 2001, ADMITS PANETTA

No one in the public yet knows which programs that Panetta is talking about, but Nancy Pelosi is now vindicated as far as I can tell.

Inhofe Calls Senator Franken a “Clown” Again

He’s about to get a lesson in who looks like a “clown.” I predict it will happen during the Sotomayor hearings, Franken and Inhofe are both on the Judiciary Committee.

AL FRANKEN SWORN IN AS UNITED STATES SENATOR

It looks like the event went fine despite a few boycotts.

In the usually staid Senate, there were plenty of signs something unusual was afoot. The Senate Gallery, rarely full even with dozens of summer tours, was packed with onlookers. After Franken took the oath of the Senate, the gallery erupted in an unusual and lengthy applause that continued for several minutes.
Before the swearing in, Franken learned one truism of the Senate: nothing ever runs quite on time. Several senators read lengthy remarks from a Homeland Security bill as anticipation built for Franken’s arrival. Franni Franken, the candidate’s wife, smiled broadly and seemed to shift nervously in her seat.
Then, about 15 minutes later than had been scheduled, Klobuchar began her introduction. She said Franken would be a champion of average Minnesotans and played up his middle-class bona fides.
“He’s demonstrated to Minnesotans that he takes his new job seriously,” she said.
She added that he carried, “the same passion as Paul Wellstone,” who was famous for his populist roots.
Franken took the oath on a Bible that belonged to the family of the late Sen. Paul Wellstone, D-Minn.

GOP Trashes Late MN Senator Paul Wellstone in Hoax Attack on Franken

Al Franken has just been sworn in as United States Senator, in a ceremony with current Vice President Joe Biden, former Vice President Walter Mondale from Minnesota, and members of the Wellstone family in attendance. The Republican Party has marked this event by producing the video at this link, which actually shows footage of Franken doing a humorous, affectionate impersonation of Paul Wellstone for a Minnesota campaign crowd out of context. Even as the Wellstone family is trying to enjoy a moment of triumph as the Democratic Farmer Labor party regains the Senate seat lost to Minnesotans only because of a tragic plane crash that killed their father, mother, and sister, Wellstone is being mocked in a cheap shot by the Republican Party. It’s downright sickening.

Palin Makes Trip to Neverland

Even ABC News, who was so softball on Palin in 2008 that they were outdone by the incredibly tenacious bulldog reporter Katie Couric, now knows Palin is off her rocker.

But when I asked Palin if she ever decided to pursue national office again, as she did less than a year ago when she joined Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., in the race for the White House, wouldn’t she encounter the same political blood sport? Can such ugliness ever be avoided? Palin said there is a difference between the White House and what she has experienced in Alaska. If she were in the White House the “department of law” would protect her from baseless ethical allegations.

“I think on a national level your department of law there in the White House would look at some of the things that we’ve been charged with and automatically throw them out,” she said.

There is no “Department of Law” at the White House.

In fairness, maybe Palin was thinking of the “Department of Law” that allowed the Vice President to shoot someone in the face and then get an apology from the victim for it, the “Department of Law” that allowed the Vice President to order the illegal outing of a dedicated CIA agent, the “Department of Law” that commuted Scooter Libby’s sentence to “not a single second in jail,” the “Department of Law” that regularly purged United States Attorneys for not doing partisan prosecutions of Democrats, the “Department of Law” that never enforced our laws against spying on Americans in their homes, or the “Department of Law” that prosecuted only enlisted men and women for torture at Abu Ghraib prison that was clearly ordered by Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld.

Reagan Era NOT Truly Over?

UPDATE: I seem to have confused everyone, maybe this will help. Also, maybe it won’t. Controversy rages.

It seems, judging from this picture, that my post below might have been too soon. Who is that guy on the left in this picture from today’s Los Angeles Times? Where’s Bonzo? Where’s Bubbles?

Shooting in NC Possibly Linked to SC Serial Killer

This is an early news report, but may turn out to be related given the proximity.  The fact that the burglary suspect has been shot dead makes it seem more likely to me that there’s a connection to the serial killer case, whether it is in fact the serial killer who was shot, or not.

Texas Wingnuts Boo John Cornyn At Teabagger Protest

He and Perry worked hard to file this “movement,” and now the monster the politicians created is turning on them. Who can question the dedication of a Victoria Jackson handstand?
