There is a similar bill in the now-GOP-controlled Oklahoma state legislature, sponsored by Brogdon. This is literally insane.
At the House hearing, state Rep. Ed Setzler (R-Kennesaw), who is shouldering the legislation in the House, spoke earnestly for better than a half hour on microchips as a literal invasion of privacy. He was followed by a hefty woman who described herself as a resident of DeKalb County. “I’m also one of the people in Georgia who has a microchip,†the woman said. Slowly, she began to lead the assembled lawmakers down a path they didn’t want to take. Microchips, the woman began, “infringe on issues that are fundamental to our very existence. Our rights to privacy, our rights to bodily integrity, the right to say no to foreign objects being put in our body. She spoke of the “right to work without being tortured by co-workers who are activating these microchips by using their cell phones and other electronic devices.†She continued. “Microchips are like little beepers. Just imagine, if you will, having a beeper in your rectum or genital area, the most sensitive area of your body. And your beeper numbers displayed on billboards throughout the city. All done without your permission,†she said.
It was not funny, and no one laughed.“Ma’am, did you say you have a microchip?†asked state Rep. Tom Weldon (R-Ringgold). “Yes, I do. This microchip was put in my vaginal-rectum area,†she replied. Setzler, the sponsoring lawmaker, sat next to the witness – his head bowed. “You’re saying this was involuntary?†Weldon continued. The woman said she had been pushing a court case through the system for the last eight years to have the device removed.Wendell Willard (R-Atlanta), chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, picked up the questioning. “Who implanted this in you?†he asked.“Researchers with the federal government,†she said. “And who in the federal government implanted it?†Willard asked.“The Department of Defense.†“Thank you, ma’am.â€The woman was allowed to go about her business, and the House Judiciary Committee approved passage of SB 235.
Another “man with a microchip” who has also had a running dispute for eight years, decided to deal with his “microchip problem” in a different way. He shot up the hospital in Knoxville Tennessee yesterday afternoon, killing one person and then himself.
Thank you, Ralph Nader, for the Freedom of Information Act. Paul Harvey, FBI stooge. I know that it’s tempting to say “this isn’t even news” but it’s even more tempting to say: and now you know, The Rest Of The Story. GOOD DAY!
One of the sickest most twisted extremists on the entire internet, who happens to live completely off government assistance, easily managed to draw a crowd with weapons at a US park, thanks to George W. Bush making it legal to carry guns in national parks. The crowd of media was as large as the “protester” group was, apparently. With the cameras rolling, he then unveiled his publicity stunt:
Signs reading “Which part of ‘shall not be infringed’ confuses you?” and bright orange stickers saying “Guns save lives” dotted the crowd at the Washington Monument. Across the Potomac River in Alexandria, former Alabama Minutemen leader Mike Vanderboegh told the crowd armed confrontation should be reserved only for instances of the government threatening people’s lives.
However, he said it might be justified if people face arrest for refusing to buy insurance under the health care reform package recently passed by Congress.
“If I know I’m not going to get a fair trial in federal court … I at least have the right to an unfair gunfight,” Vanderboegh said.
I’d be in favor of revoking his government “handouts,” putting a cordon that’s larger in radius than rifle range, and having government agents wait him out and see how well he survives with nothing but his beloved Freedom and a pile of guns.
This “news” is of course timed for April 19th and the anniversary of the anti-government domestic terror attack in Oklahoma City. Since two Oklahoma state legislators are backing this “militia” insanity formally, it should be pointed out that the Tea Party is running away from elected Republicans for being too pro-violence, not the other way around. Brogdon and Key are traitors.
So little has changed for some of these people. This video is from a South Carolina teabagger rally last week. The entire Tea Party movement is corporate funded and corporate sponsored.
Guess what, Rush. Hitler was upset about all his comrades killed in World War I, too. McVeigh was a Nazi mass murderer and you are trying to justify what he did on a day of grief for thousands of Americans.
This decision is downright shocking to me. What kind of political cynicism does it take to ignore this case, that kid was sadistically brutalized to death and I have actually seen it on video. Justice in the U.S. is little more than a game, and a sick one at that. No murder charges, no manslaughter or wrongful death charges, and now no civil rights charges. I fully agree with the protesters, simply look at the video. You should be warned, this is just as disturbing as the video recently posted here of journalists being killed by the US military.
These two Oklahoma state legislators are traitors to the people and State of Oklahoma. Brogdon is running for Governor. The Governor commands the Oklahoma National Guard. What does he plan to do, order the Guard to hand out their weapons to a right-wing, racist mob? This is a national disgrace (that is a national news story I am linking to) and it happens just 7 days from April 19th, the 15th anniversary of the Oklahoma City bombing. Brogdon and Key should simply resign from the legislature, and everyone in the state should demand it happen before next Monday.
UPDATE: As this story predictably gets more coverage in the media and blogosphere, Think Progress elaborates on the background of these winners:
Both Berry and Brogdon lean heavily on far right propaganda and media outlets to fuel their conspiracy theories. Berry frequently cites conservative news outlets like CNS and notes that he draws inspiration from the white supremacist thriller The Turner Diaries. Despite his extremism, Berry has met with Sen. Tom Coburn (R-OK) and other members of the Oklahoma Republican delegation, and counts them as “rock solid.†Brogdon, whose states’ rights resolution was drafted by corporate lobbyists opposed to health reform, has been endorsed by the lobbyist-run Tea Party Express and has appeared on on Fox News, Alex Jones’ radio show, and at a Glenn Beck rally.
The Turner Diaries was McVeigh’s favorite book. I highly recommend this rant blasting this racist “militia” phenomenon. My own views are incredibly similar so there’s really no need to write another one, although I invite everyone here to expound on it.
